Self-Guided Day Hike

LOCATION: Point Grondine Park – Merv’s Landing located on highway 637 40km west of highway 400, before the Killarney Provincial Park office.

DURATION: 4.0HRS

Get your gear and come hike this beautiful new 6-kilometre loop that takes you to the summit overlooking the white quartzite Mountains of the Killarney Mountain range. Merv’s Landing is a 6.0km trail that begins at the trail head at the Point Grondine Park. This single tract, natural surfaced trail flows through hardwood and Pine stands, crosses beaver damns via handcrafted pine bridges to the Recollet’s summit overlooking the Killarney Mountain Range. Relax for lunch while taking in the rich history of the Anishnaabek people of Point Grondine, Killarney and the French River. Interpretive signage at the summit highlights the connection the Anishnaabek have to this vast land. The trail down to Mahzenahzing Lake will give you the opportunity to take in some breathtaking scenery (and great photo ops!) and gives you a glimpse into the landscape of the Point Grondine Park and Georgian Bay Coast Trail.

Customized tours are also available for school/tour groups – call 705-859-3477 for further information.

In 2007 a Tourism Strategic Planning session was initiated with industry stakeholders in the community to identify a direction for the growth of Aboriginal Tourism in Wikwemikong. As a result, Wikwemikong Tourism was formed as department within the Wikwemikong Development Commission to initiate programming that was focused on capturing an equitable share of the tourism industry on Manitoulin Island.
